Just had the same issue. It came up when

/etc/init.d/networking restart

So I compiled pdnsd with -g and debuged the thing. It turns out that the
label in /etc/pdnsd.conf is not a label at all. At least not in the sense of
a label that you come up with on your own to give something a name. It must
be a value from a specific list. When I changed the label in pdnsd.conf to
resolvconf it started working without the error message.
