Then I guess you are deliberately breaking all up-to-date unstable
boxes? In this case udev installs, but doesn't start at boot time
anymore, while with 0.060-1 it starts.

However unstable packages should always be release-quality. I wouldn't
call the current package (not working with the stable kernels)
release-quality.

Then why are you refusing to support earlier kernels like it has been
suggested? 

The usual way of dealing with packages seriously breaking binary
compatibility is to rename them, not to use fragile scripts that leave
the system in an unusable state during an upgrade.
