Package: esound-clients
Version: 0.2.36-1
Severity: important

Today's apt brought in new esound-clients... and all of a sudden
some sounds stopped playing.

It's not the esd server: I didn't stop or restart my running esd.

'strace esdplay' shows nothing useful. The difference between
esdplay on foo.au vs foo.wav is:

     BOTH: open("path", O_RDONLY) = 3
           fstat64()
           _llseek()
           read()

...but when run on a .au file, esdplay exits(0). On a .wav, esdplay
goes on to access("/tmp/.esd/socket", R_OK|W_OK), socket(), etc
and the sound plays.

(In short: 'esdplay foo.au' never attempts to contact esd server)
