Hello, I had this problem because after installing virtualbox-ose-additions, virtualbox gets automatically upgraded, but not virtualbox-ose-qt. After a manual upgrade of virtualbox-ose-qt, it worked.
As you see you don't need to do obscure things to enter this failure state. Please add strong dependency rules between all virtualbox packages, this is the only way to have it working for everybody and anytime.
