OK, I tried to compile using the linux-headers-2.6.30-1-486 .config and it failed again.

This time the messages at fail were:

 CC arch/x86/kernel/apic/io_apic.o
  LD arch/x86/kernel/apic/built-in.o
  CC arch/x86/kernel/cpu/intel_cacheinfo.o
arch/x86/kernel/cpu/intel_cacheinfo.c: In function ‘show_ways_of_associativity’:
arch/x86/kernel/cpu/intel_cacheinfo.c:645: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault

So I suppose it is looking like a compiler bug. If so, can you reassign it or do I need to do something?
