As far as I understand, currently, the munin-node package does not depend on python, but rather suggests it upon installation. As the only plugin that really needs python in the munin-node package is smart_ plugin, this is a rather weak dependency, so suggesting python seams more reasonable. You mentioned that the fact that you don't have python, and that munin-node doesn't depend on it somehow causes a problem with the munin-node-configure script.
