There are gdm and ~/.xsession. The latter used to have the following line: setxkbmap us,ru ,winkeys ctrl:swapcaps grp_led:scroll grp:toggle I restored /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/debian-x11-keymap.fdi and changed the above line to setxkbmap -rules evdev \ us,ru ,winkeys ctrl:swapcaps grp_led:scroll grp:toggle Then I restarted hal and gdm and everything went fine! Keyboard works as expected, no problems noticed. Thanks a lot, Julien!
