It looks like DKMS identified your system as running SUSE, not Debian, which it does by looking for /etc/SuSE-release and /etc/SuSEconfig. Do either of those exist? (In the long term I would prefer that DKMS would detect the installed distribution type in a single place, which could be patched to return a static value in packaged versions.)
