The report was ok, the patch wasn't, and as you may guess the work for the maintainer is more or less the same whether it is a private mail or not. This bug should be marked as affecting (see the 'affects' BTS keyword) the other package. I guess I'll be uploading a fixed package tonight, although I don't like the sort of changes we have to make to workaround pear's brokenness.
