Definitely: I can confirm that, after adding the line

  video/ogg=mplayer.desktop

to ~/.local/share/applications/defaults.list, Galeon now offers me to
save the file or to open it with MPlayer (which is *not* the same as
using the plugin).

Wow, I didn't noticed the warning in mozilla-mplayer package
description, thanks for pointing out.

Let's see if gecko-mediaplayer works.

  # aptitude --purge-unused purge mozilla-mplayer
  # aptitude install gecko-mediaplayer

Yes!  After restarting Galeon, it works!
