On current squeeze or sid, I can not confirm your problem.
Perhaps, the bug was closed in a newer version of libgcj8-1.
Some people using Ubuntu seems to had/have the same problem as you:

If you can reproduce the bug with libgcj8-1 >= 4.3.4 or with the newest
pdftk-1.41+dfsg-1, which uses libgcj9-0, please report it.
