I suspect that this is because defoma doesn't like fonts with spaces in the name (but the defoma docs don't say explicitly that that's wrong, and I'm no defoma expert, I just looked at the source to see what causes that error message to be produced.) The system is a stock 'sarge' and this was a first-time install of the package.
