Package: gridengine Version: 6.2-4 Severity: normal Hi,
the gridengine-common package install two config files in /etc/gridengine/, namely 'configuration' and 'bootstrap'. Having these files in /etc it suggests that they could be config files, but they don't actually seem to be that. First, 'configuration' says "DO NOT MODIFY THIS FILE MANUALLY!", but it should read "WHATEVER YOU DO TO THIS FILE HAS NO EFFECT!". SGE/qconf doesn't read it and the Debian packaging also doesn't do that, but 'init_script' refers to /usr/share/gridengine/default-configuration during the initial package configuration. Afterwards it is never read again. I don't see any reason to keep those files, especially since they indicate a configuration possibility that does not exist. The only potentially existing case for which it would make sense to keep those files would be: If the package is removed (but not purged) and reinstalled later on the package cuold use the same, potentially tweaked, bootstrap default again. However, first this is probably very rare and second /usr/share/gridengine/{default-bootstrap,default-configuration} should become symlinks to /etc/gridengine. It looks like this was intended to be like this at some point (looking into debian/file_structure in the source package).
