Package: linux-image-2.6.30-2-686
Version: 2.6.30-8
Severity: important

I get the "unable to handle kernel paging request" several times per week with
similar stack trace on my desktop PC. Sometimes it seems to have no significant
impact on the system, at other times it kills X server (one of the two running
instances).

Some background information, (not very useful but still better than nothing):

The machine worked quite well with Debian Lenny. When I upgraded to Squeeze a
few weeks ago, I started to experience complete kernel lock-up issues several
times per week, (even when machine was not in use). Then the kernel was
upgraded to the current version, and the lock-ups disappeared, (well, almost,
because I encountered at least one since the upgrade), but "unable to handle
kernel paging request" started to appear instead with about the same frequency,
(although they seem to be triggered by some activity). The PC is on 24/7.

memtest86+ does not show any issues, (although I didn't run it longer than
10-20 minutes recently).

My X configuration is unusual -- two X-servers are started on the same graphics
card and monitor via two different xdm sessions on two virtual consoles. This
is to allow quick switching between active sessions of two different desktop
users. Iceweasel is usually running under both users, (one instance with lots
of opened tabs, but I have plenty of RAM for such usage). Any of the users
starts 'vlc' from time to time to watch multicast video streams announced via
SAP protocol, I occasionally compile some software, and there are several
jobs/daemons started/running in backgound. The vlc and the compilation seem to
be the main triggers of the BUG kernel issues, but unfortunately I have not
found exact steps/conditions leading to them.
