Package: amanda-server

Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi

when i first tried to use an APPLICATION with new amanda-server i got
the following error:

ERROR: : Application 'amgtar': ** (process:502):
CRITICAL **: amgtar must be run setuid root
ERROR: : Application 'amgtar': exited with status 1
ERROR: : Application 'amgtar': can't run support
command

A dpkg-statoverride solved the problem:
dpkg-statoverride --force --update --add root root 4755
/usr/lib/amanda/application/amgtar

I believe that all beneath /usr/lib/amanda/application/ should be run
with setuid root like it is i.e. for
ls -la /usr/lib/amanda/runtar
-rwsr-xr-- 1 root backup 7564 2009-11-24 19:38 /usr/lib/amanda/runtar

So my recommendation is to set the setuid root on
/usr/lib/amanda/application/* per package default.

Regards,
matthias
