libgtk is a library and I bet you would still have another bunch of "useless" 
libraries installed even if amarok dropped GTK dep. However, it's true that 
libgtk AND its dependencies are rather huge and might seem suboptimal for such 
a thing as iPod covers (esp. if you don't the device).

What's more, GDK should be in its own library package anyway, but not bundled 
with libgtk2.0-0.

Splitting package per se is easy. But dealing with frustrated users afterwards 
is not so much fun. However, if you are willing to write a patch which makes 
libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0 usage optional, I will probably include it in packaging 
and/or push it upstream. Offensive file is 
src/collection/ipodcollection/handler/IpodHandler.cpp
