Well, I have $ dpkg-query -S searchbar.desktop konq-plugins: /usr/share/kde4/apps/konqueror/kpartplugins/searchbar.desktop Starting konqueror from the commandline, toggling the search bar on/off a bit, quitting and restarting eventually gives findServiceByDesktopPath: crypto.desktop not found I don't know whether that helps. In ~/.kde/share/config/konquerorrc I had "currentEngine=google"; deleting this setting, the section or the whole file doesn't make my searchbar appear.
