It may be related to the Xerces 3.1 transition, as described by http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-shibboleth-devel/2009-December/001531.html (I'm unsure, so won't mark thig bug pending yet.) Try the packages from backports.org if you're into that sort of thing.
