I think this was due to the tested file bootstraping from /usr, so it
passed only when pbuilder was installed (and hence wasn't really
testing the proper pbuilder); I've changed these files in pbuilder tip
to be relocatable and made the testsuite use this. As a nice side
effect, I don't need to trash stderr anymore, so we should see the next
failure in the output if any.
