I now have texlive-base 2009-6 installed (as suggested by #561785). - v0.47 2009-10-12 as per /usr/share/doc/texlive-base/texdoc/texdoc.pdf - v.0.6.0a (Nov 5, 2004) as per /usr/share/texmf-texlive/scripts/tetex/texdoctk.pl Out of the box it doesn't work. It works perfectly if I manually enable support_zipped=true in the new script (/usr/share/texmf-texlive/scripts/texdoc/constants.tlu). It allows me to view compressed docs, like pgfmanual.pdf.gz from texdoc pgfmanual. Without this manual intervention, it doesn't work. The problem comes from default config file locations. Running texdoc with -d, I can see that no config files are found: texdoc debug-files: Configuration files are: texdoc debug-files: absent /home/jst/texmf/texdoc/texdoc-bin.cnf texdoc debug-files: absent /home/jst/texmf/texdoc/texdoc.cnf texdoc debug-files: absent /home/jst/texmf/texdoc/texdoc-dist.cnf texdoc debug-files: absent /usr/local/share/texmf/texdoc/texdoc-bin.cnf texdoc debug-files: absent /usr/local/share/texmf/texdoc/texdoc.cnf texdoc debug-files: absent /usr/share/texmf/texdoc/texdoc.cnf ... However, texlive-base installs texdoc.cnf here on my system: /usr/share/texmf-texlive/texdoc/texdoc.cnf This file does have the correct support_zipped=true configuration and viewing compressed docs would work fine if it was considered, moved or linked in the right location.
