Package: nautilus Version: 2.28.4-1 Severity: important Tags: l10n Debian version : sid unstable 2 january 2010
since a big update in 1 november 2009, nautilus can't browse samba share of my network, computer are not visibles but it is possible to join a computer's share by the I.P address , or the computer's hostname trought nautilus. this bug is appeared with gnome 2.28, and it affects both Windows and Linux computers. I can reproduce this bug, with a fresh installation of debian testing squeeze, the network is no longer browsable by nautilus, and even less after the upgrade to sid. in fact when you click on the shortcut network, an icon appears with the name of the network that you want to browse, but when you double click on it, a dialog box appears and asks for a login and password . if you return a login and password recognized on the network or on your computer, the dialog returns has infinite. I do not think the problem comes from a firewall or packet samba since computers are accessible by their hostname or IP address. I would tend to worry about gvfs, because when you use smb4k (KDE packet to browse samba share), there is no worries. for memory, the smb4k use smbclient to browse the network shares and computers, and especially not gvfs....
