It certainly would be of great help in identifying the root of the
problem. I've tried to reproduce this in my laptop (an up-to-date sid
i386 system) and was not able to make the X server hang or crash. My
video driver is intel, though. So there's a good chance for this being
a bug in the radeon video driver.
