I have installed festival 1.96~beta-7 with synaptic. When I give the command: $festival --tts fisier I get the error: Linux: can't open /dev/dsp I have found at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=171182 that "I got the same error. Now, installing *alsa-oss* and *oss-compat*, it works." I suggest that festival's dependencies include from now on: alsa-oss oss-compat I am using Debian GNU/Linux 5.0, kernel 2.6.26-2-686.
