OK, here's a short follow-up on the problem: It seems that it is related to following X11 resource:
nedit*fontList: -*-helvetica-medium-r-normal-*-14-*-*-*-*-*-*-*, fixed, fixed If I disable this resource, I get different fonts and the growth problem vanishes. The config file (.nedit*) does not seem to have any influence in my case. It can be seen that nedit makes use of the font "fixed" for the menu but not for the status bar. The following fonts exist on the system: -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--14-100-100-100-p-76-iso10646-1 -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--14-100-100-100-p-76-iso10646-1 -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--14-100-100-100-p-76-iso10646-1 -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--14-100-100-100-p-76-iso8859-1 -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--14-100-100-100-p-76-iso8859-1 -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--14-100-100-100-p-76-iso8859-1 -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--14-140-75-75-p-77-iso10646-1 -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--14-140-75-75-p-77-iso10646-1 -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--14-140-75-75-p-77-iso10646-1 -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--14-140-75-75-p-77-iso8859-1 -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--14-140-75-75-p-77-iso8859-1 -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--14-140-75-75-p-77-iso8859-1 So, actually it should be possible to load the font. If I install nedit-5.5 (32bit) from the "official" download, then the font is accepted and no growth problem occurs. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
