It's probably a good idea to reassingn this to fai instead.  As I said
above, I don't know what FAI is.  Now I looked.  And it seems like it's
FAI who creates the initrd, not you.  Hence it might be FAI issue.

I think the initrd is created by live-initramfs, of which I am using version 1.157.4-1grml.01, but I think I've tried the standard Lenny version as well (will try again).

With earlier KVM versions I tried a lot of different network drivers, with no luck. Today, I tried e1000 and it seemed to not even send valid DHCP requests, perhaps I will take a tcpdump and submit a bug later.
