devscripts and ca-certificates maintainers Cc-ed. curl could be told to ignore certificate verification (in debcheckout, I'm not sure that should be done though). The other option is I guess to make sure that the certificate of the CA of alioth (ca.debian.org aka Debian) is in ca-certificates. Could be tried by installing the cert in /etc/ssl/certs and running dpkg-reconfigure ca-certificates AFAIR.
