Just one more thought on this .... The file 91-permissions.rules sets group ownership of /dev/nvram to kmem. I presume it does this for a reason although I do not know why. I'm concerned that the tpb rule, in setting that group ownership to nvram, might cause new problems. Any idea why 91-permissions.rules sets /dev/nvram to be group owned by kmem? I believe that particular rules stems from the udev package.
