Ok, here's a thing you can try. I know of a weird bug with wicd and some drivers, causing random disconnections and other weird behaviour when the signal strenght (is|is not) measured in dBm. Can you please try switching that option, and see if that bug (disappears|is still there)? If it disappears, then I'd have an hint where to look. Also, would you please enable debugging mode, and attach wicd.log here, if it's any different from the snippet Didier posted before?
