Package: cups Version: 1.4.2-4 Severity: important Something has recently caused cups admin authentication to fail. This used to work and I haven't changed the password. I have always authenticated on the web interface using root and the password for root. All of a sudden it is failing. I get the window asking me to authenticate and it has the remembered userid of root and password. I click on okay and it flashes and then comes up again. I hit enter again and then the browser window goes blank. I navigated back and tried again this time using my normal userid and got a failure message which I expected since I always used root before. Now, I no longer get prompted for any admin login information when I do something that requires admin access.
Here are the errors in the log: E [18/Feb/2010:18:26:33 -0500] cupsdAuthorize: pam_authenticate() returned 7 (Authentication failure)! E [18/Feb/2010:18:28:00 -0500] cupsdAuthorize: pam_authenticate() returned 7 (Authentication failure)! E [18/Feb/2010:18:32:43 -0500] cupsdAuthorize: pam_authenticate() returned 7 (Authentication failure)! E [18/Feb/2010:18:32:58 -0500] Returning HTTP Forbidden for CUPS-Set-Default (ipp://localhost/printers/MFC9010CN) from localhost E [18/Feb/2010:18:33:30 -0500] Returning HTTP Forbidden for CUPS-Set-Default (ipp://localhost/printers/MFC9010CN) from localhost The Authentication failure errors are from when I tried root as I always have. The last two are what I get now every time I do something that requires authentication. I don't even get a login window anymore.
