I didn't see any reasons why it was rejected
There is ticket I'm talking about:

It have been closed and marked solved, but error is not fixed.
I will try to reproduce error with patched and not patched pidgin.
Error is taking place with auth requests with message written in
russian, ukranian and other non-latin languages in ICQ
