Thanks for this. I have looked into it and whilst the change would be easy to do, there is no accepted standard for this. A number of services use RUN_DAEMON or something similar. I suggest that you start a discussion on debian-devel and reach a consensus which gets included in Debian Policy and then we all know what is expected.
