Package: slrn
Version: 0.9.8.1pl1-5
Severity: important
Hello.
The following problem has arisen since the upgrade to slrn
0.9.8.1pl1-5 in Etch. Sometimes, on leaving a subscribed group in
which all articles are marked read (manually or with catchup), a very
large number of unread articles appear in the groups overview list. On
entering the group again, all articles are marked read, but then new
articles in the group subsequently received are also marked read.
Moreover, manually marking articles in the group unread has no effect
after leaving the group - they're still marked read. Closing and
opening slrn has no effect: only logging out and in resolves the
problem, and only temporarily.
I'm unable to determine exactly what triggers this effect, and can't
give details of how to reproduce it. It seems to happen quasi-randomly
to any group that has no unread articles on pressing "q". --debug
shows nothing unusual.
On compiling vanilla source, the problem is solved, so I'm guessing
that there may be a problem in the Debian package being compiled
against libslang2 2.0.3 instead of Etch's current 2.0.4.
I've tagged this as "important" because the functionality of slrn is
significantly impaired.
