I think it’s a good idea to add ‘lmodern’ as recommendation to the ‘texlive-xetex’ package. But I ask you to wait doing so until I’ve received an answer from the Xetex mailing list. I wrote them an e-mail and described our problem [1] because I’m no Xetex guru either and I think that if there’s someone that can help us, then it’s somone from tug.org.
