This is at least to some extent fixed in xserver-xorg-video-nv 1:2.1.17-2, as the nv driver will now refuse to load if a KMS framebuffer driver is active, rather than messing up the display. Though I don't know what interesting things will happen when you first start X with the nv driver and only then get the idea to run "modprobe nouveau".
