The benefits are:

- "quilt" functionality is built in; needs no explicit package dependency.
- debian/rules needs no special commands (makes it more
   clean).
- Standard quilt commands from command line continue to work as usual.

If you have time, please see the attached NMU work I did so far. With
these chnages the package comes Lintian clean. It also closes some of the
bugs (like libdb transition).
