Making the symlinks manually is a workaround for this problem:
$ ln -s /etc/X11/cursors/crystalgreenleft_classic.theme
/etc/alternatives/x-cursor-theme
$ mkdir /usr/share/icons/default
$ ln -s /etc/alternatives/x-cursor-theme
/usr/share/icons/default/index.theme
After doing this, the package configures (though still not without
errors):
Setting up crystalcursors (1.1.1-11) ...
Use of uninitialized value in string ne at
/usr/sbin/update-alternatives line 285.
update-alternatives: warning: /etc/alternatives/x-cursor-theme has been
changed (manually or by a script). Switching to manual updates only.
update-alternatives: using
/etc/X11/cursors/crystalgrayleft_nonanim.theme to provide
/usr/share/icons/default/index.theme (x-cursor-theme) in auto mode.
update-alternatives: using /etc/X11/cursors/crystalblue.theme to
provide /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme (x-cursor-theme) in auto mode.
Afterward, the theme is reset to the default ("crystalblue"), though I
had "crystalgreen" selected before the update.
