This bug specifically affects the game Oolite on systems with these
faulty versions of libgnustep-base.
Does it affect only the testsuite? I seem to be able to play the game
without any problems.
As far as we can tell, the core game is not affected although we have not
completed a complete audit.
The biggest concern revolves around the fact that Oolite can be expanded
using 'OXPs' - Oolite eXpansion Packs - which are developed by the Oolite
community. They are largely entirely driven by Property Lists. Several of
these are now known to be affected by this bug and, as there is no
centralised hosting or publishing of OXPs, it is very difficult to attempt
to vet them all. From a user perspective, they cannot tell why their
save-game has stopped loading, or why certain OXPs are no longer working.
We will certainly raise awareness of this amongst OXP authors and attempt
to work-around this issue where possible.
That's right, 1.19.x became obsolete once 1.20.0 was released. The
next stable Debian release, Squeeze, will ship with 1.20.x, probably
1.20.1. If it happens to be 1.20.0, I'll make sure to pick up the
patch.
Great, thanks for this.
Please find attached a backported patch for gnustep-base-1.19.3.
Many thanks for your efforts, but no further uploads of 1.19.3 are
planned for Debian. We hope to be able to upload 1.20.x to sid very
soon.
This is understandable.
One of our concerns, which is of course not your issue, is that Ubuntu
Lucid has shipped with 1.19.3 and is an LTS. They would have liked to see
a Debian fix to 1.19.3 rather than maintaining their own diffs.
Many thanks for taking your time to investigate this bug report.
Cheers,
- Micha.
