Could you post the file /boot/grub/grubenv, preferably as an
*attachment* since it is not plain text?
Is anything else fancy going on? For instance, are you using LVM or
RAID? How far is /boot/grub/grubenv into the disk?

Anything else fancy? no. It's a one-linux-partition laptop system, dual
boot into windows 7.
However, I get an error message "error: file not found" flashed up after
"Welcome to GRUB" and just before the menu loads.
