I have attached kernel output; once the timeout occurs, the interface is unusable and bounces spastically (without becoming operational) until the system is rebooted. This most often is triggered by samba traffic, but that could be because that is just the heaviest traffic on my system. ;-) BTW, this interface is reported by lspci as: 00:12.0 Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc.
