Package: libxine1
Version: 1.1.18.1-1+b2
Severity: normal

Given that playing a DVD and CD shouldn't require a datarate much
beyond 1x by definition, playing such a video or music with xine
usually has the motor and disk spinning much much faster than
necessary, contributing to wear, noise, heat and battery wastage.

It'd be very nice if libxine1 used code similar to
http://linuxfocus.org/~guido/#cdspeed
to set the speed of the drive closer to the rate needed to retrieve
data from the disk (normal play, this would be 2x, perhaps speeding it
up a little when in FastForward mode).

The above code works on my machine when invoked after I start playing
something in xine (I typically use x1 or x2 when watching a dvd), and
I suffer no track skippage.
