I do not claim (or did I?) that those Not_found exceptions are the cause of trouble.
All I can say is that when switching back to approx 4.1-1 the long delays disappear, which makes me suspect that the problems are not related to local issues on my machine.
Yes, if those delays occur also for properly authenticated repositories, then perhaps the problem is not related to that after all.
