This started happening to me after my latest apt-get upgrade.
I get the 'scanning for devices' then it crashes:
Please remove ~/.sane/xsane and try to reproduce the issue. As with
every XSane upgrade, backward compatibility of the saved configuration
is not guaranteed and could be the source of your segfault.
Thank you for your suggestion, however that didn't help.
