I have the same problem.
I think it's not xscreensaver related, because xlock has the exact same 
behaviour.

Did not help.
I'm using Debian SID with gdm & openbox.

I got now clue, although I searched a solution for mor ethan an hour.

Killing xlock/xscreensaver works, but sucks.

I'll mail you if I find something.
