in light of the above, some tests and code analysis, you're fully right.
openbox has its own native WindowMaker style dock.
and I've introduced a regression in wmnut by setting the window, icon and WM
name, instead of only the latter for withdrawn mode. These 3 are reserved to
the windowed mode.
And they were causing the forced windowed mode behavior you're
experiencing...

I'll check for the patch and upload, but later.
I'm a bit tired now (just back from a municipal council...)
