I'm wondering, that none of the maintainers has commented on this bug yet? I think this one is not that unimportant, because it could for example silently break automatic backup scripts which is not very nice, especially in debian stable!
If the bug can't be repeated, please let me know and I will try and do a bit more of debugging.
