I noticed I only had logs since July, and didn't make the effort to
discover whether it was due to a log rotation policy or the log file
only being recently introduced. Clearly it's the latter. Thanks for
pointing it out.

My main use case was to be able to tell which packages were upgraded or
installed since a particular time, for instance, which packages came
down in the last dist-upgrade or which dependent packages were installed
when I added the unstable repository and did an apt-get install -t
unstable <shiny new package>. The new log seems to provide that
information.

The other thing that would be nice is to list which repository the
currently installed package came from, but this should probably be done
by comparing the currently installed version to the versions provided by
all available repositories at the apt level, even if that is a bit
messy.

Thanks for your help and time.
