Strange, I did play with caff without sending any email, and as far as I can
remember it has always created the message files. I have checked through the
changelog, and I have not seen any changes which could have fixed this problem
since you have 1.0-2 and the latest release in the Archive is 1.1.3-1.

First of all I will try to reproduce the problem, and I let you know.
I also think the messages have to written in any case.
