Could you check if these commands work at a root prompt?
# ps --no-headers -C faxq -o pid
# ps --no-headers -Chfaxd,faxq,faxgetty
Then, please, these two commands will identify "ps" package version:
# dpkg -S `which ps`
# apt-cache policy $(dpkg -S `which ps` | awk -F: '{print $1}')
