Another thing that bothers me with the new kernels is that I have to enable KMS to use the intel driver, but disable it if I want to use vesa (the current fallback for me). Changing the bootloader configuration and rebooting just to switch the graphics driver doesn't seem right. If you need any additional information, let me know.
