Your xorg.conf does not look correct, please try out following:
* Install and use the debian squeeze 2.6.32 kernel
* mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf_bug_bak
* aticonfig -f --initial

reboot and try it out again
